Justin and Comedy.

Hello! I am Justin Washington and I am a stand-up comedian. My story begins on one fateful day at one of my high school assemblies of October 28th when a comedian came to perform. He stood in front of 500 critical high school students and attempted to make them laugh. To his dismay the crowd was unresponsive and filled with hecklers. I was sitting in the very back upset about a break up the day before. During his performance he asked the crowd if anyone wanted to be a stand-up comic in the future. The crowd was silent.. and then something quite unusual happened at that moment. I Justin Washington, feeling as if I had nothing to loose, stood up and screamed " I dooo! ". The comic did not take me seriously so he shouted back, " have any jokes?!", to which I replied, " sure do!". Now I did not have any jokes but the urge to prove that I wouldn't back down from a challenge flowed through my veins. The comic asked me to come down to the front. So without a seconds hesitation I started to walk, then run towards the front of the stage. He asked me my name and then said to the confused crowd, " ladies and Gentlemen here is Justin Washington!". At that moment I began to improvise a comedy routine about the Mighty Power Rangers. The crowd roared with laughter! My routine lasted about two minutes until the microphone was taken away from me by the comic who was originally there to entertain. Both myself and the comic had no idea that the outcome of my routine was going to be so successful. He sent me back to my seat and he closed the assembly. The word got out that I was funny and offers to perform stand-up comedy at small venues began to happen. The biggest venue I had played was at the Hilton Hotel in Hollywood. After that I became a professional and started playing larger venues such as the Laugh Factory on Sunset Blvd. I have been playing many, many venues since then and will follow the laughs onto my next shows. On March 6th of 2010 I had to make a difficult decision. I was cast to be in a fashion show that day but I also got word that auditions for the hit NBC television show LAST COMIC STANDING were happening that day. I had to make a decision of whether to audition for LCS or quit the fashion show. So with a week of thought I took a huge risk and did BOTH! The fashion show ended at 4:00 P.M and the auditions started at 9:00 A.M. So you could clearly see the problem. As soon as the fashion show ended I drove as fast as I could to the audition. I was to late. But in front of the audition room was a camera crew for LCS. They were interviewing a comedian who had auditioned that day. I walked up to the interview and to my surprise they wanted to interview me! So they began asking me questions of all sorts. The one question I wish they had not asked would be, " What are some physical ways you prepare for a show?". At that moment I felt I had to stand out so I said something I wish I hadn't. I said "I can do a handstand!" which was followed by a "Let's see it!" I then tried my best to improvise a handstand in front of NBC. Lets say I think I've learned my lesson on trying to stand out. On April 22nd of 2010 an opportunity to get back into the comedy game occurred. I had taken a three month break from Stand-up, due to a very successful play I was in. The Show was at the Ice House. A comedy club that I had heard so much about, had a show case featuring some amazing talents in comedy. A friend of mine was hosting the show that night and asked me to join the team. So on the 22nd of April I jumped back into the Ice cold water of comedy. As the result of a successful show, I have been asked back to the same venue and others. The 22nd was a refreshing night.
